2026 Middle School and High School Final Examinations Scheduled for May 19 and June 7

ALGIERS, March 17th, 2026 — The dates for the 2026 sessions of the Middle School Certificate (BEM) and the High School Diploma (BAC) have been officially announced as May 19 and June 7, respectively, by the Ministry of National Education of Algeria.
The Ministry has revealed the end-of-year exam schedule for both the middle and secondary education cycles. For the 2026 session, the tests for the Middle School Certificate will take place from May 19 to May 21, while the High School Diploma examinations are scheduled from Sunday, June 7, to Thursday, June 11.
Nearly 1.6 Million Students Will Sit the Exams
Approximately 1.6 million students are expected to sit for these critical examinations, marking a decisive step in their academic journey. An analysis of the official schedule reveals a slight adjustment compared to the 2025 session. Both examinations have been advanced: the Middle School Certificate was previously conducted from June 1 to June 3, and the High School Diploma from June 15 to June 19. However, the duration remains unchanged—three days for the Middle School Certificate and five days for the High School Diploma.
Consequently, the countdown begins earlier than last year. Students in other grade levels, who are not participating in these final exams, will take their third-trimester evaluations from May 10 to May 14.
This adjustment may reflect the authorities’ intention to ease the academic calendar pressure, particularly to avoid the intense summer heat, which can affect examination conditions.
SATEF: “Most Curricula Near Completion”
Commenting on the schedule, Boualem Amoura, Secretary-General of the Autonomous Union of Education and Training Workers, noted that the revised schedule also accounts for the timing of Eid al-Adha, expected around June 29, thereby preventing students from taking exams during the holiday.
Nevertheless, Amoura expressed concern regarding the full completion of educational programs.
“In schools, the majority of curricula are nearly complete, while some teachers continue delivering content to ensure students are fully prepared. With this earlier schedule, the question remains whether the remaining time will be sufficient to complete all programs,” he remarked. He added that exam subjects will cover only lessons taught in class.
Addressing students, Amoura emphasized the importance of perseverance, noting that success stems from consistent effort rather than last-minute preparation.
“Examinations must be prepared for from the beginning of the academic year—or even earlier—to build a strong foundation. Efforts throughout the year will inevitably be rewarded,” he said, while wishing all candidates success.
He also referenced reforms announced by Mohamed Seghir Sadaoui, aimed at reorganizing both the Middle School Certificate and High School Diploma exams starting with the 2027 session.
Supporting Students in Exam Preparation
Amoura further highlighted that requiring a 14-year-old student to sit four exams on the first day of the Middle School Certificate—three of which rely heavily on memorization—can generate significant stress, advocating reforms for both examinations.
This reform process has already been launched by the Ministry through the creation of a working commission tasked with streamlining curricula and focusing on core subjects.
From the perspective of parents, however, the exam timetable should not disrupt students’ revision plans. Djamila Khiar, head of the National Federation of Parents of Students in Algeria, emphasized that the two months remaining constitute the final preparation stretch for candidates.
“Our children must manage their time efficiently and strengthen their preparations without stress. They should make use of the 15-day spring holidays following Ramadan to catch up on any backlog,” she advised.
Khiar also urged parents to actively support their children during exam preparation, supervising study schedules and assisting with time management. She stressed the importance of regular school attendance, noting the high rate of absences, particularly during the second trimester.
