Algiers – November 2025 – Economic emergence and social prosperity continue to stand at the forefront of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s national vision, forming the twin pillars of an agenda aimed at reshaping the Algerian state and consolidating its resilience. Since the pivotal Government–Walis meeting of 12 August 2020, President Tebboune has consistently affirmed that the nation is firmly embarked on the path toward a “New Algeria.” During that address, he declared with unmistakable resolve that there would be no retreat in the effort to consolidate stability, eradicate illicit wealth, and dismantle the remnants of the Issaba. “History is moving forward, and the situation is improving positively every day,” he asserted, signalling a decisive break with the inertia of the past.
Five years later, the promises of 2020 have transitioned into tangible, measurable achievements. On 20 November 2025, during a visit to Constantine, the President announced that Algeria would witness in the coming year “a genuine new beginning that will lead the country, definitively, to safe harbour.” What once seemed an ambitious pledge has now materialised into concrete progress across multiple sectors, laying the groundwork for a new economic chapter.
The road to this moment, however, has been steep. The early years of the President’s first term were marked by formidable constraints — from the obstruction of the former regime’s residual networks to the global economic fallout of the pandemic, which severely restricted manoeuvring space for structural reforms. Yet, despite these compounded pressures and external antagonism hoping to see Algeria slide into decline, the reform trajectory prevailed.
Today, Algeria’s ambition of economic emergence is no longer a distant aspiration. It is becoming an observable reality across the national territory, driven by reforms anchored in good governance, anti-corruption, meritocracy, and the liberation of investment from bureaucratic shackles. These measures have allowed the nation to mobilize its full potential, foremost among which is its youthful demographic.
President Tebboune’s remarks in Constantine underscored Algeria’s success in keeping key economic indicators in the green, supported by promising growth forecasts. Large-scale strategic projects — accomplished “in a short period of time,” as he emphasized — attest to renewed institutional efficiency and the shrinking space for corruption. The acceleration of project delivery, particularly those of national importance, is now seen as a clear sign of governance reform taking root and as evidence of a new development ethos anchored in transparency and public accountability.
One of the most symbolic milestones is expected within weeks: the President announced his upcoming visit to Béchar to inaugurate a historic moment — the arrival of iron extracted from the Gara Djebilet mine through the new Tindouf–Béchar mining railway. This long-awaited achievement stands as a testament to Algeria’s strategic push to revive major industrial poles and reinforce logistical connectivity.
This development joins a broad spectrum of investment projects that continue to strengthen national infrastructure, support local development, and fuel the country’s economic ascent. Crucially, this economic momentum does not come at the expense of the social dimension of the presidential programme. On the contrary, the citizen remains the central axis of the economic equation, with purchasing power and social well-being upheld as fundamental priorities of government policy.
Under President Tebboune’s stewardship, Algeria is charting a course toward lasting emergence — an emergence that reconciles economic modernization with social justice, national ambition with institutional renewal. The horizon of 2026, as projected, is poised to mark not merely another year on the calendar, but the beginning of a decisive phase in Algeria’s modern history.
