Algerian Army’s Counter-Crime Operations Deliver Major Nationwide Results in One Week

Algiers – December 2025 – The People’s National Army (ANP) has unveiled a sweeping and forceful operational report covering the period from 3 to 9 December 2025, underscoring the Army’s unwavering vigilance, strategic precision, and sustained offensive against terrorism, transnational crime, narcotrafficking, illicit gold mining, and irregular migration. The report reflects a week marked by decisive actions and major seizures that demonstrate the unwavering readiness and professionalism of Algeria’s armed forces.
According to the ANP’s communiqué, combined Army detachments, operating in coordination with national security services, successfully foiled multiple attempts to smuggle vast quantities of drugs across the western borders. More than 26 quintals of processed kif originating from Morocco were intercepted, alongside 19 kilograms of cocaine seized in separate, meticulously coordinated operations. These results exemplify Algeria’s continued efforts to dismantle criminal networks seeking to destabilize national security and exploit regional vulnerabilities.
In the counterterrorism sphere, ANP units arrested 10 individuals providing support to terrorist groups, reaffirming the Army’s sustained commitment to dismantling the remaining logistical networks that enable terrorism in the region. These arrests, carried out across diverse regions of the country, reinforce the ANP’s ongoing doctrine of pre-emptive action and rapid intervention.
The fight against organized crime delivered equally significant results. ANP detachments apprehended 59 narcotraffickers, seized 455,658 psychotropic tablets, and neutralized a series of trafficking attempts involving powerful cross-border networks. These operations, carried out across multiple Military Regions, highlight the strategic coordination between the Army and national security services in combating the multifaceted threats linked to narcotraffic.
The ANP also intensified its crackdown on illegal gold mining in the southern regions. In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Illizi, and Djanet, Army detachments arrested 276 individuals and seized substantial equipment, including 28 vehicles, 299 generators, 221 jackhammers, three metal detectors, and quantities of raw gold ore and related materials. These seizures underscore the state’s determination to dismantle illegal mining networks that damage the environment, undermine economic interests, and fuel parallel criminal economies.
In separate operations, 15 additional individuals were arrested. Army units seized a Kalashnikov submachine gun, five hunting rifles, 6,570 litres of fuel, and 7.5 tonnes of foodstuffs destined for smuggling and speculative trade—activities that directly harm the national economy and threaten social stability.
The report also highlighted the crucial role of the national Coast Guard. Along the country’s shores, the Coast Guard thwarted multiple irregular migration attempts, rescuing 392 individuals aboard makeshift vessels. Additionally, 351 illegal migrants of various nationalities were detained across the national territory in ongoing efforts to combat human smuggling networks.
