435 New Buses Arrive at Ports of Algiers, Djendjen as National Fleet Renewal Accelerates

ALGIERS โ February 22, 2026 โ A total of 435 new buses have arrived at the ports of Algiers and Djendjen as part of Algeriaโs national program to renew its public passenger transport fleet. According to official figures, 338 buses of various types were received at the port of Algiers, while 97 buses arrived on Sunday at the port of Djendjen.
The deliveries were received by the Vehicle Industry Development Establishment (EDIV), an entity operating under the Directorate of Military Manufacturing of Algeriaโs Ministry of National Defence.
Part of a 10,000-Bus Import Programme
The buses were supplied by a Chinese partner within the framework of an import programme for 10,000 new buses aimed at renewing the countryโs ageing passenger transport fleet. The arrival of these vehicles reflects the implementation of a presidential programme led by Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, seeking to modernize Algeriaโs national transport capacity.
The programme is being carried out under the supervision of General of the Army Saรฏd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the National Peopleโs Army.
Further Deliveries Expected from China and Germany
Additional batches of buses imported from foreign partnersโincluding the Peopleโs Republic of China and the Federal Republic of Germanyโare expected to arrive soon as the programme continues.
The import of 10,000 buses, decided by the President of the Republic, is intended to replace obsolete vehicles while being accompanied by the immediate and large-scale importation of different types of vehicle tyres, as part of a broader effort to upgrade Algeriaโs public transport infrastructure.
