Algiers – November 2025 – In a demonstration of unyielding vigilance and operational firmness, Algeria’s People’s National Army (ANP) recorded a series of decisive security achievements between 12 and 18 November, marked by the surrender of a terrorist, the dismantling of support cells, and the thwarting of major narcotics trafficking attempts across the national territory. The operational report issued Wednesday by the Ministry of National Defence underscores the ANP’s sustained counterterrorism commitment and its broader mission to combat organized crime in all its forms.
According to the communiqué, the terrorist identified as Tibari Hafez, alias “Guaassaoui”, surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar within the 6th Military Region. He was in possession of a pistol, a Kalashnikov-type machine gun, significant quantities of ammunition, and various other items. His surrender reflects the pressure continuously exerted by counterterrorism units and the operational dominance maintained over border zones long targeted by outlawed groups.
In the same operational sequence, ANP detachments arrested eight individuals providing logistical and operational support to terrorist networks. The arrests, carried out across multiple regions, illustrate the effective dismantling of clandestine structures that have historically sustained terrorist activity.
Beyond counterterrorism, the ANP also intensified its fight against transnational organized crime—particularly narcotrafficking—originating from the western borders. Combined ANP detachments, operating in coordination with various security services, intercepted 27 narcotraffickers and foiled attempts to smuggle one quintal and 45 kilograms of processed kif originating from the borders with Morocco. As part of the same operations, security forces seized 1.4 kilograms of cocaine and an alarming 967,504 psychotropic tablets, showcasing the magnitude and sophistication of drug-smuggling networks seeking entry into Algerian territory.
Operations in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Illizi, and Djanet also resulted in the arrest of 186 individuals involved in illegal gold-mining and parallel economic activities. Security forces confiscated 27 vehicles, 296 generators, 164 jackhammers, and substantial quantities of raw gold mixture, stones, and gold-extraction equipment. The scale of these seizures indicates the breadth of illicit mining practices that have proliferated across the southern regions.
Further operations led to the arrest of 14 additional individuals and the seizure of an FMPK machine gun, three Kalashnikov submachine guns, six hunting rifles, 27,440 liters of fuel, and ten tonnes of foodstuffs destined for smuggling and speculation—two practices that directly undermine national economic stability.
On the maritime front, Algeria’s Coast Guard units foiled numerous attempts of illegal migration along national shores, rescuing 152 individuals attempting the crossing aboard makeshift boats. Meanwhile, 491 undocumented migrants of various nationalities were intercepted across the national territory, reinforcing the ANP’s role in protecting national borders from complex migratory pressures.
The Ministry of National Defence concluded by reaffirming that these high-impact operations underscore the professionalism, readiness, and unwavering commitment of Algeria’s armed forces, whose missions continue to expand and adapt in the face of evolving security challenges.
