Algiers – December 2025 – Abdelatif Dilmi, Secretary-General of the National Union of Algerian Farmers (UNPA), emphasized on Thursday that Algerian farmers are fully equipped with the expertise and qualifications necessary to achieve a robust agricultural output capable of stimulating national economic growth, attaining self-sufficiency, and securing sustainable food security. Speaking during the 51st anniversary celebrations of the UNPA, attended by the Ministers of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Internal Trade and Market Regulation, as well as Water Resources, Dilmi highlighted the pivotal role of cereal production and high-consumption crops in strengthening the country’s economic fabric.
The Secretary-General stressed that the government’s support has been crucial in enabling farmers to engage effectively in sustainable agricultural development, noting the sector’s significant contributions to red meat production and the establishment of cold storage facilities. “UNPA-affiliated farmers have actively participated in securing durable food security through diversified agricultural outputs,” he affirmed.
Dilmi further underscored the transformative potential of the sector’s digitization program, which aims to regulate and organize agricultural land management while addressing key operational concerns such as irrigation, access roads, and the delineation of agricultural zones.
Complementing these efforts, Minister Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid confirmed that his department is implementing a comprehensive program of consultations with operators and social partners to address their challenges, provide solutions, and stimulate intensified agricultural investment. He stressed that digitization will remove bottlenecks that have previously impeded farming activities, allowing for flexible and rapid management across all agricultural domains.
Minister of Internal Trade and Market Regulation, Amel Abdellatif, highlighted the UNPA’s role in stabilizing prices and safeguarding the fruit and vegetable economy, urging greater professional engagement to maintain market equilibrium and bolster national economic development. Meanwhile, Minister of Water Resources, Taha Derbal, addressed the critical challenges of water supply, emphasizing the state’s strategy for ensuring national balance through large-scale water transfers and enhanced storage capacities to support agricultural productivity.
