Accra African Parties Summit: Polisario Front Voices Sahrawi Cause on Continental Stage

Algiers, Algeria | The Polisario Front has marked its presence at the African Political Parties Summit held in Accra from 12 to 14 August 2025, bringing the Sahrawi struggle into sharp continental focus. Led by Abdelkader Taleb Omar, member of the Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat and head of its Social Committee, the delegation is engaging with political heavyweights, civil society actors, and academics from across the African continent.

 

The summit, convened under the theme “From Politics to Prosperity: Strengthening Inter-Party Collaboration for Africa’s Development and Economic Transformation”, aims to transcend ideological divides and forge a united front for the African Union’s Agenda 2063 — a vision of a prosperous, secure, and self-reliant Africa.

In side meetings, Taleb Omar briefed fellow delegates on recent developments in the Sahrawi cause, underscoring the continued pursuit of self-determination and the legal and moral imperatives that underpin it. These exchanges, according to sources within the delegation, were instrumental in securing renewed political sympathy and strategic alliances for the Sahrawi struggle.

The Accra summit, beyond its ceremonial nature, serves as a critical arena for continental power-brokering — where narratives are shaped, partnerships are sealed, and Africa’s geopolitical future is quietly negotiated. By placing the Sahrawi issue squarely on the agenda, the Polisario Front has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting not only for the liberation of Western Sahara but also for the principles of justice, sovereignty, and African solidarity.

As Africa’s political class grapples with economic transformation and peace consolidation, the Polisario Front’s participation serves as a reminder that development without decolonisation remains an incomplete project — and that Africa’s prosperity must be built on the foundation of freedom for all its peoples.
