Africa Conflicts: Algeria Reaffirms Its Consistent Diplomatic Doctrine at AU Summit

In an address delivered on his behalf, President Tebboune praised the efforts of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during Egyptโs presidency of the Peace and Security Council, commending the comprehensive report presented at a time marked by acute geopolitical complexity and mounting security pressures across several African theatres.
The Algerian Head of State reaffirmed Algeriaโs long-standing and consistent position regarding conflicts on the continent, reiterating Algiersโ full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo amid persistent instability in the eastern provinces.
Addressing the Sahel crisis, President Tebboune stressed the necessity of adopting an integrated approach linking security imperatives with sustainable development, while tackling the socio-economic roots that continue to fuel violent extremism in the region.
On Libya, Algeria renewed its support for an inclusive inter-Libyan political process and for continental and UN-led mediation efforts aimed at reconciling rival factions. The President underscored that the only viable solution lies in free and transparent elections, coupled with the full and immediate withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries, in order to preserve Libyaโs unity and sovereignty.
Regarding Sudan, Algeria expressed deep concern over the unfolding humanitarian tragedy and unprecedented violations, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the launch of a sovereign, inclusive national dialogue capable of ending the bloodshed and responding to the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
In the Horn of Africa, Algeria reiterated the importance of respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity, advocating peaceful settlement of disputes through constructive dialogue within the mechanisms of the African Union.
On Western Sahara, President Tebboune reaffirmed Algeriaโs support for the United Nationsโled political process toward a just and lasting solution consistent with the UN Charter and Security Council resolutions, while stressing the importance of sustained constructive engagement under UN auspices.
Algeria also warned against illegitimate foreign interference, identifying it as a key factor exacerbating instability and obstructing conflict resolution and democratic state-building across Africa.
Concluding his message, President Tebboune emphasised that confronting these challenges requires the full operationalisation of the African Peace and Security Architecture and the concrete implementation of the principle of โAfrican solutions to African problems,โ a doctrine that remains central to Algeriaโs diplomatic vision.
