Africa–Japan Summit: Morocco’s Maneuvers Collapse in Humiliation

Algiers, Algeria | The Morocco regime, once again, has been forced to swallow the bitter taste of diplomatic failure on the international stage. At the recent Africa–Japan Summit (TICAD), Rabat’s shadowy tactics—rooted in bribery, blackmail, and its habitual reliance on underhanded maneuvers—suffered a crushing defeat. Its desperate bid to exclude the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), a founding member of the African Union and thus a legitimate and indispensable partner, ended in abject humiliation.

Despite Morocco’s feverish backstage plotting, the Sahrawi delegation, led by Prime Minister Hamoudi Bouchraya Bayoune and Foreign Minister Mohamed Yeslem Bayssat, participated officially and unambiguously in the summit, marking yet another diplomatic victory for the Polisario Front and its just cause.

But Morocco’s embarrassment did not end there. In a moment that will haunt the Makhzen’s propaganda machinery, a Japanese minister, confronted by a loaded question—likely planted by a Moroccan journalist—regarding an alleged classification of the Polisario as a “terrorist organization,” responded with unflinching firmness. The Japanese official categorically dismissed the insinuation, putting Morocco’s lies to shame in full view of the international community.

To seal Rabat’s diplomatic debacle, the official map of the summit, published by Japan, depicted Western Sahara clearly separated from Morocco. This cartographic truth, recognized and respected by Japan and its African partners, symbolized once more that international legality and the right of peoples to self-determination are stronger than any colonial propaganda or coercive lobbying.

For Morocco, this was more than just a defeat—it was a humiliation. Its strategy of deception and corruption collapsed under the weight of undeniable realities: the Sahrawi Republic is a legitimate state, its people are entitled to freedom, and the world has not been fooled by Morocco’s falsehoods.

This latest fiasco serves as a powerful reminder that no amount of diplomatic trickery can erase the principles of justice and international law. The Sahrawi cause continues to triumph on the global stage, while Morocco’s colonial project finds itself increasingly isolated, discredited, and disgraced.
