African Diasporas: Pillars of Continental Renaissance – Acting Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb Underscores Algeria’s Strategic Commitment

Algiers – September 2025 – On the second day of the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF-2025), Acting Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb delivered an address that underscored the decisive role of African diasporas — including Algerians abroad — in shaping the continent’s economic and social renaissance.
Opening with a message on behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Ghrieb conveyed greetings and best wishes for the forum’s success, framing it as “a milestone in strengthening the ties between African diasporas and their motherland.” This symbolic introduction positioned Algeria’s leadership as a custodian of continental unity and diaspora engagement.
“The active participation of diaspora representatives from across the globe adds exceptional value to this event and ensures its success,” Ghrieb affirmed, emphasizing that the encounter was not only institutional but also deeply emotional and cultural, reconnecting diasporas with their homelands.
The Acting Prime Minister highlighted Algeria’s unique approach in valorizing its diaspora, describing it as “an inseparable part of the nation.” He stressed that President Tebboune places these communities at the core of his vision, while state authorities continuously strive to reinforce this historic and affective bond.
Invoking memory as a unifying force, Ghrieb recalled the struggles of diasporas during the fight against colonialism and oppression. On the eve of the 64th National Day of Migration, he paid tribute to the Algerians abroad and African diasporas who “fought against colonialism, segregation, and all forms of injustice,” while honoring descendants of exiles who continue to preserve that legacy.
Beyond remembrance, Ghrieb articulated a robust economic and political dimension, noting that diasporas now channel their expertise, resources, and influence to reinforce Africa’s integration and sustainable growth. “Their engagement today takes new forms — mobilizing skills and resources to consolidate the bonds that unite Africans abroad with their continent, in a spirit of solidarity and African unity,” he declared.
He further recalled Algeria’s active role within the African Union, particularly as a member of the High Committee overseeing the African Diaspora Agenda (2021–2031). Algeria, he assured, is “fully committed to supporting continental initiatives and accelerating joint projects related to diasporas.”
Concluding on an optimistic note, Ghrieb praised the depth and substance of the debates, affirming that “today’s fruitful and inspiring discussions will enrich reflection and generate practical, innovative proposals to enhance the role of diasporas in building an integrated and sustainable future for Africa.”
