African Exponent: Algeria Ranked as Africa’s Richest Nation in 2025

These initiatives are aligned with a comprehensive national strategy aimed at reducing hydrocarbon dependency, while simultaneously positioning Algeria as a manufacturing and energy hub for North Africa and beyond.
Equally significant are Algeria’s robust foreign exchange reserves—estimated at over $90 billion—and its effective containment of inflationary pressures, which African Exponent describes as a “perfect mastery of macroeconomic stability.” Moreover, the country’s deepening trade relations with Europe, China, and its dynamic engagement with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) were flagged as central pillars of this ascendant trajectory.
“Algeria is not merely a country rich in natural resources; it is rapidly becoming an industrial and energy powerhouse with continental ambitions,” the analysis concluded, noting that its stability and reforms provide a comparative advantage in attracting investment and cementing leadership across Africa.
The African Exponent assessment comes at a pivotal moment, as Algeria hosts the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) in Algiers.
