African School Games 2025: Algerian Swimmers Secure Five Medals on Opening Day

Algiers, Algeria– Tuesday, July 29, 2025 |  Algerian swimmers clinched a total of five medals—three silver and two bronze—at the conclusion of the first day of swimming finals, held Monday at the National School of Olympic Sports (ENSO) pool in Sétif, as part of the inaugural African School Games (JSA 2025).

The silver medals were won by Aya Hamdaoui in the girls’ 50-meter freestyle, Amin Mehdi Achouri in the boys’ 50-meter butterfly, and Mohamed El Hadi Sigha in the 200-meter breaststroke.

Meanwhile, Mehdi Dehamna claimed bronze in the 100-meter backstroke, while Kamelia Mezouar earned bronze in the girls’ 800-meter freestyle.

Algeria currently holds third place in the provisional swimming medal standings, with Egypt leading the race, followed closely by Tunisia. The competitions are set to continue on Tuesday with several finals on the schedule.
