Air Transport Expansion: Saïd Sayoud Announces Over 100 Additional Domestic Flights Across Algeria

Algiers – November 2025 – Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, announced the addition of more than 100 new domestic flights per week — a measure that will create over 15,000 additional seats across the national air network.
Responding to an oral question during a plenary session of the Council of the Nation on Thursday, Sayoud explained that this increase will primarily benefit the southern wilayas, reflecting the government’s commitment to regional development and the integration of the country’s vast southern territories into the national transport grid. He noted that the upcoming reception of a new aircraft will further alleviate pressure on existing routes and improve the efficiency of air travel nationwide.
The minister also highlighted the continued adjustment of flight programs to meet growing demand, particularly in light of Air Algérie’s expanding fleet and the modernization strategy undertaken by the sector.
Touching upon the theme of digital transformation, Sayoud affirmed that Algeria’s transport sector has made significant progress in digitalization, in alignment with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. “The Ministry has adopted a comprehensive sectoral digitalization plan that encompasses all public enterprises in the field and all services directed toward citizens,” he stated.
In a forward-looking announcement, Sayoud revealed that 2026 will mark the launch of the multimodal unified ticket project, allowing travelers to use multiple modes of transport — including air, rail, and road — with a single ticket. The project will be piloted in Algiers before being gradually extended to other wilayas, signaling a major shift toward integrated and smart mobility systems.
The minister further emphasized the ministry’s coordination with the High Commission for Digitalization to adapt the transport sector to emerging technologies, recalling the growing number of digital platforms and applications already launched by public transport companies to improve service efficiency and user experience.
Concluding his remarks, Sayoud announced a transformative development within the national carrier, Air Algérie, which is set to modernize its operations through the acquisition of 16 new aircraft and the establishment of a dedicated domestic airline. This new entity will focus exclusively on internal air transport, ensuring greater flexibility, better service coverage, and improved accessibility for all citizens.
