Al Arabiya on a New “Algerian” Mission: What We Know and What We Warn Against

Algiers – September 2025 – For weeks now Al Arabiya has embarked on a new mission—one aimed at striking at the mother Arab cause, Palestine—and this time by targeting the historical and contemporary ties between Algeria and Egypt.
Today the channel unveils a purportedly “leaked audio recording” of the late Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser—an audio that, by its own timeline, predates the founding of the United Arab Emirates. In the clip, the voice attributed to Nasser allegedly tells former Mauritanian President Mokhtar Ould Daddah (also deceased and therefore unable to respond) that Algeria contributed nothing to Egypt’s war against the Zionist entity.
Without descending into the minutiae of a point-by-point rebuttal, it is important to pause and consider several salient facts:

Everyone familiar with the backstage of Arab media knows that, even though Al Arabiya relocated to Riyadh and sits closer to direct Saudi oversight, the Emirati hand retains influence inside the channel. Assigning the file of Algerian-Egyptian relations to be detonated publicly has now become a central objective for that hand.

Prior to this, Al Arabiya staged multiple manufactured “cockfight” debates—pairing Egyptian and Algerian guests—thereby reducing the complex pan-Arab discussion about Egypt’s real and aspirational role beyond Gaza to nothing more than a contrived confrontation between an allegedly “realist” Egypt and an Algeria portrayed as excessive.

The aim goes beyond settling old scores with Algeria; it seeks to deal a death blow to whatever remains of Egypt’s standing as a state and a historical force of genuine support in moments of crisis. Meanwhile, the UAE has, regrettably, succeeded in isolating and weakening Egypt in unprecedented ways—sowing disruption across its immediate neighborhood in Libya, Sudan and Palestine, even collaborating with the Zionist entity to embroil Egypt in existential tensions with Ethiopia over the Nile.

In an age of audio and visual manipulation—where AI tools can counterfeit speech and image—Al Arabiya still expects us to deny the documented testimonies contained in the memoirs and official recollections of senior Egyptian and Zionist military figures. From Major General Saadeddin El Shazly to Ariel Sharon, published records, tables and figures detail Algeria’s monetary and military support—so extensive that the Algerian air fleet committed every significant asset to the conflict. This trajectory began immediately after the 1967 setback and culminated in sustained support through the War of Attrition and into the October 1973 conflict, a decade later.

The Emirati hand’s objective is to unsettle Algerian–Saudi and Algerian–Mauritanian ties and to thwart any effort at Arab reconciliation by inventing a blind, media-fueled war on social platforms—one that misses the mark, manipulates history, magnifies points of disagreement and inflames division.
