Algérie Poste and Civil Service Authorities Roll Out Revised Schedules Across the North and the South to Safeguard Workers’ Health and Ensure Public Service Continuity

Algiers, Algeria | June 10th, 2025 — In response to the extreme summer heat conditions expected during the 2025 season, Algérie Poste and the Algerian government have unveiled a comprehensive revision of working hours across the country, prioritizing both operational efficiency and the well-being of public employees.

On Tuesday, Algérie Poste officially released a statement via its Facebook page announcing the new summer schedule for postal offices nationwide. The adjustment—effective from the beginning of summer—is designed to optimize service hours while reducing employee exposure to peak heat levels.

The changes introduce a regional distinction between the North and South of the country, tailored to local climatic conditions and organizational structures.

Northern Regions Postal Hours:

1. Shift-based system :

   • Saturday to Wednesday: 08:00 to 19:00

   • Thursday: 08:00 to 16:00

2. Limited-service system :

   • Saturday to Wednesday: 08:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 17:00

   • Thursday: 08:00 to 12:00

3. Continuous-service system :

   • Saturday to Wednesday: 08:00 to 17:00

   • Thursday: 08:00 to 12:00

Southern Regions Postal Hours:

1. Shift-based system:

   • Saturday to Wednesday: 07:00 to 18:00

   • Thursday: 07:00 to 15:00

2. Limited and continuous service systems:

   • Saturday to Thursday: 07:00 to 13:00

Algérie Poste urged its customers to consult these schedules in advance and organize their visits accordingly, reiterating its commitment to maintaining the quality and accessibility of postal services even under adverse weather conditions.

Government Measures for Civil Servants: 20 Southern Wilayas Affected

In parallel with the postal adjustments, the government has enacted new summer working hours for civil servants in 20 wilayas located in the South and Grand South of Algeria. This decision will be enforced from June 1 to September 30, 2025, as a protective measure against extreme heat, which can often exceed 45°C in shaded areas.

The revised workday includes:

• 07:00 – 12:00: Morning shift

• 12:00 – 12:30: Midday break

• 12:30 – 15:00: Afternoon shift

This early start and condensed afternoon period are intended to help public workers avoid the stifling midday heat while preserving the continuity of government services.

List of Wilayas Covered by the Adjustment:

• Traditional Southern Wilayas: Adrar, Tamanrasset, Illizi, Tindouf, Béchar, Ouargla, Ghardaïa, Laghouat, Biskra, El Oued, Timimoun

• Recently Created Wilayas: Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Ouled Djellal, Béni Abbès, In Salah, In Guezzam, Touggourt, Djanet, El M’Ghair, El Menia

Authorities emphasized that this long-standing policy, renewed each summer, aims to balance productivity with humane working conditions. In regions where desert temperatures can rapidly become hazardous, such measures are no longer optional—they are a necessity.
