Algeria Advances Economic Dialogue as Rezig, Abdellatif Host IMF Delegation

Algiers – November 2025 – In a renewed affirmation of its commitment to economic reform and international cooperation, Algeria hosted on Sunday a high-level delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), marking a pivotal moment in the annual consultation process between the two parties. The delegation, led by Charalambos Tsangarides, held extensive discussions with Kamel Rezig, Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, followed by a separate meeting with Amel Abdellatif, Minister of Domestic Trade and Regulation of the National Market.
At the Ministry of Foreign Trade, Rezig outlined Algeria’s evolving strategy to strengthen its presence on global markets, emphasizing the government’s determination to enhance the competitiveness of national products. He provided the IMF delegation with a detailed overview of the ministry’s initiatives aimed at simplifying export procedures, supporting exporters, and widening the country’s network of international commercial partnerships. According to the ministry’s communiqué, both sides exchanged perspectives on mechanisms to stimulate exports and reinforce Algeria’s positioning in foreign markets.
Rezig also highlighted the substantial progress achieved in digitalizing export and import procedures, a reform that aims to streamline operations, accelerate trade transactions, and improve overall business conditions. He recalled the establishment of two specialized institutions dedicated respectively to export and import oversight—structures designed to guide investors and ensure greater transparency in external trade. The minister further underscored the regulatory measures introduced to better control import activities, in line with Algeria’s efforts to safeguard economic stability and enhance governance within the commercial sector.
The IMF delegation later held a comprehensive working session with Minister Amel Abdellatif, who presented the major reforms implemented by her department in domestic trade management, price regulation, market organization, and support for national production. She stressed the significant progress made in digitalizing monitoring and evaluation systems, bolstering economic control mechanisms, and developing tools to ensure a stable supply of essential goods for Algerian consumers.
A central element of Abdellatif’s presentation concerned the pivotal role of the National Centre for the Commercial Register (CNRC), which has become a cornerstone of Algeria’s strategy to improve the business climate. Through the digitalization and simplification of commercial registry procedures, the CNRC has facilitated faster administrative processes, encouraged investment, and contributed to a more transparent and efficient economic environment.
The IMF delegation welcomed these efforts, commending Algeria’s ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening transparency, improving market regulation, and enhancing the overall climate for business and investment. Their recognition reflects growing international acknowledgment of Algeria’s shift toward modernization, economic diversification, and institutional reinforcement.
