Algiers, Algeria | June 18th, 2025 — In a high-profile demonstration of Algeria’s commitment to the continent’s energy future, Noureddine Yassaa, State Secretary to the Minister of Energy in charge of Renewable Energies, led an Algerian delegation to Cape Town, South Africa, where he participated in the official opening of the 27th Africa Energy Forum (AEF 2025) on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The delegation included senior officials from the Ministry of Energy as well as executives from Sonatrach, Algeria’s state-owned hydrocarbon group.

The Africa Energy Forum—running from June 17 to 20—is recognized as the continent’s premier energy summit, attracting heads of state, energy ministers, global investors, and major players in the energy sector. The 2025 edition brought together African energy leaders from South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, and Cameroon, alongside representatives from international institutions and global industry leaders to address the opportunities and challenges in building a sustainable energy future for Africa.

At the heart of this year’s discussions were themes of renewable energy deployment, accelerating investment flows, and bridging the public-private divide in project development. The forum placed strong emphasis on the green transition, with special focus on emerging sectors such as green hydrogen and expanded electricity access across underserved regions.

During a high-level closed-door roundtable titled “Accelerating Projects: Public-Private Sector Synergies,” Yassaa joined African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy and several African energy ministers, along with executives from the African Development Bank, the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation, and top-tier global energy firms.

The session explored concrete mechanisms to foster collaboration between governments and the private sector, streamline energy project execution, and unlock innovative financing tools for renewables, hydrogen energy, and energy access solutions that advance regional integration and energy security.

In his strategic intervention, Mr. Yassaa showcased Algeria’s cutting-edge sustainable energy strategy, outlining the country’s readiness to serve as a regional hub for clean energy development. He presented Algeria as a reliable investment destination, stressing the government’s political will to play a catalytic role in African public-private energy cooperation.

On the sidelines of the forum, Mr. Yassaa held bilateral talks with South African Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa. The discussions focused on deepening Algeria–South Africa collaboration in renewable energy and green technologies. The two parties discussed joint projects of high added value, technical and institutional knowledge exchange, training, and innovative financing frameworks to support the clean energy transition.

Notably, Algeria took a decisive step by formally expressing its intent to join the African Green Hydrogen Alliance—a strategic initiative aimed at coordinating African efforts in developing and promoting green hydrogen as a lever for decarbonization, energy sovereignty, and sustainable growth.
