Algeria at the Heart of Africa’s Economic Future: AU Official Hails IATF-2025 as a Landmark Success

Algiers – September 2025 – The fourth edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF-2025), hosted in Algiers, has been hailed as a resounding triumph, both in scale and significance, by senior officials of the African Union. Speaking exclusively to El Moudjahid, Dr. Patrick Ndzana Olomo, Director of Economic Development, Integration, and Trade at the African Union Commission, affirmed that Algeria has set a new benchmark for continental economic cooperation.
“The fourth edition of IATF is a total success. When you look at the number of countries participating, you realize we have reached an exceptional level,” Dr. Olomo declared. With nearly 2,000 exhibitors gathered from every corner of the continent, the fair has shattered previous records, offering a vibrant platform for African entrepreneurs and businesses. “The organization is flawless, thanks to the facilities Algeria has provided. I also witnessed a remarkable national enthusiasm, with many Algerian visitors from across the country engaging directly with African operators to explore business opportunities,” he added.
Beyond the impressive participation figures, Dr. Olomo underscored the event’s strategic role in advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), describing it as the most ambitious economic integration project in the world. “With 55 nations and a demographic force of nearly 1.5 billion people, AfCFTA is by far the largest market globally. In two decades, it will rival the combined weight of China and India. Here in Algiers, we are laying the foundations of Africa’s transformation into a strong, prosperous, and winning continent,” he emphasized.
Citing Algeria as a case in point, Dr. Olomo highlighted the country’s vast potential to leverage AfCFTA for accelerating its productive transformation, positioning itself as a model for the entire continent. “Algeria is one of the continent’s leading economies—diversified, influential, and second only to South Africa in strength. It is a giant at the very heart of Africa’s integration agenda,” he affirmed.
In his remarks, Dr. Olomo also paid tribute to the leadership of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stressing that the decision to host IATF-2025 reflects Algeria’s unwavering political commitment to bolstering Africa’s economic power. “By agreeing to host this edition, President Tebboune has sent a strong signal of Algeria’s determination to drive African integration from north to south. The strength of AfCFTA lies in its ability to federate nations into an unstoppable economic force,” he concluded.
