Algiers, Algeria– Monday, July 14, 2025 | In a diplomatic engagement marking a new phase in Algerian-Belgian relations, Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, received Hadja Lahbib, Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, and Development Cooperation, who is on an official visit to Algeria.

Held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Algiers, the bilateral meeting began with a one-on-one dialogue between the two foreign ministers, followed by an expanded working session that brought together high-ranking officials from both delegations. According to an official communiqué, the discussions were substantive, wide-ranging, and focused on revitalizing bilateral cooperation and advancing shared strategic objectives.

The two ministers undertook a comprehensive review of the state of friendship and cooperation between Algeria and Belgium, examining ways to elevate the relationship to a higher level, one that fully reflects the vast potential and mutual interests of both countries.

Among the key outcomes of the meeting was a shared commitment to inject renewed momentum into the partnership through tangible initiatives. These include the reactivation of follow-up mechanisms, modernization of the legal framework, and increased engagement between business communities in both nations to unlock promising avenues for cooperation.

The talks identified several priority sectors for enhanced collaboration, including renewable energy, transport infrastructure, mining, agri-food industries, and pharmaceutical production—areas seen as central to both countries’ economic transformation agendas.

On the multilateral front, both parties discussed Algeria’s evolving partnership with the European Union, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, mutual respect, and balanced cooperation. In particular, they highlighted joint efforts aimed at promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across the Euro-Mediterranean region.

The ministers also exchanged views on key international and regional developments, with particular focus on the Palestinian cause, the fragile security landscape in the Sahel region, and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Both sides underscored the need for multilateral diplomacy and collective engagement to address these complex challenges.
