Algeria Breaks New Ground in Africa: «Sym» Motorcycles to Conquer Tunisian and Chadian Markets
✍️ BY: Dr. Hana Saada
Algiers – September 2025 – Algeria has taken another bold step in asserting its industrial footprint across Africa with the recent signing of two landmark export agreements for its locally produced «Sym» motorcycles. The accords, valued at a combined 1.2 million dollars, were formalized by Algeria Ham Motors during the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025), marking a decisive moment in the country’s pursuit of economic diversification and continental leadership.
The first agreement was concluded with Tunisia’s MegaCycle Distribution, a company renowned for its specialization in motorcycle importation and distribution. Under this partnership, seven distinct models of the Algerian-manufactured «Sym» motorcycles, together with spare parts and accessories, will be supplied to the Tunisian market, thus signaling a robust entry into one of North Africa’s most dynamic consumer sectors.
The second agreement, a memorandum of understanding with the Société Générale des Équipements et de la Distribution du Tchad, paves the way for a forthcoming formal contract that will channel Algerian motorcycles into the Chadian market. This step carries symbolic weight, highlighting Algeria’s growing determination to penetrate deeper into Sub-Saharan Africa while reinforcing solidarity and intra-African commercial ties.
Analysts argue that these agreements transcend mere trade, representing a milestone in Algeria’s industrial emergence. They underscore the vitality of the two-wheeler sector, a field often overlooked in discussions of industrial policy, yet one that holds significant potential for regional expansion and consumer reach. With Algeria Ham Motors leading the charge, Algerian industry is proving that it can generate competitive, high-quality products capable of rivaling foreign imports across African markets.
At the strategic level, these deals embody Algeria’s commitment to South-South cooperation, fostering stronger economic integration among African nations. They also demonstrate the tangible results of Algeria’s policies aimed at empowering local industry, diversifying exports beyond hydrocarbons, and affirming its role as a continental hub for industrial production and distribution.
