Algiers – December 2025 – In a demonstration of strengthened bilateral ties, Algeria and the Republic of Chad formalized a series of strategic agreements in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors during a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines in Algiers. This historic step follows the official working visit of Chadian Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mines, and Geology, Ms. Ndolènodji Alexis Naïmbay, and underscores the mutual determination to expand and deepen cooperation across critical energy and mineral industries.
The signing ceremony witnessed the presence of key Algerian officials, including Secretary of State for Mines Karima Beker Taffer, Sonatrach CEO Noureddine Daoudi, Sonaram CEO Reda Belhadj, and the heads of Algeria’s national hydrocarbons and mining agencies. These accords reflect a shared vision to elevate technical expertise, enhance regulatory frameworks, and facilitate robust institutional collaboration, particularly between ALNAFT, ARH, and Chad’s ARSAT.
Key areas of cooperation include exploration, production, refining, petrochemicals, gas valorization, and the reduction of gas flaring, as well as the development of the LPG value chain from production to distribution. Both countries committed to advancing knowledge transfer, technical assistance, and the participation of Sonatrach in priority hydrocarbon projects in Chad.
In the mining sector, the agreements emphasize sustainable exploitation of mineral resources, including rare metals, industrial minerals, and precious stones. Collaborative research, expert exchanges, and capacity-building programs aim to foster local value creation while leveraging Algerian expertise to enhance training and workforce development in Chad.
To ensure rigorous implementation, joint working groups for hydrocarbons and mining will oversee opportunities and track progress. Additionally, a series of formal agreements, including memoranda of understanding in mining and geology, cooperative accords in hydrocarbons, regulatory partnerships, and training programs, will cement this long-term strategic partnership.
