Algiers, Algeria | June 23rd, 2025 — Algeria has reiterated its steadfast commitment to bolstering energy cooperation across Africa during the 17th U.S.-Africa Business Summit held in Luanda, Angola, from June 23 to 27, 2025. Representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Minister of State and Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, addressed the high-level opening session, spotlighting Algeria’s role as a regional energy leader and driver of sustainable development.

The summit, held under the theme “Pathways to Prosperity: A Shared Vision for U.S.-Africa Partnership”, gathered over 1,500 global figures including heads of state, ministers, corporate leaders, and representatives from major energy and financial institutions. The event marked a pivotal moment in the transition from policy declarations to practical implementation of energy projects throughout the African continent.

During the plenary session titled “Strengthening U.S.-Africa Energy Partnerships: From Dialogue to Execution,” Arkab delivered a keynote speech on behalf of President Tebboune, underscoring Algeria’s strategic ambitions and concrete contributions to continental energy integration.

He praised Angola’s leadership in hosting the summit, coinciding with the country’s 50th anniversary of independence and its presidency of the African Union in 2025. Arkab emphasized that Africa stands at a critical juncture, with abundant hydrocarbon and renewable energy potential that must be tapped through efficient and mutually beneficial partnerships.

In this context, he detailed Algeria’s strategic energy initiatives, including the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline, regional electricity interconnection projects, the national renewable energy expansion program, and the Green Hydrogen Plan, all aimed at transforming Algeria into a clean energy hub for both African and European markets.

Arkab called for innovative financing mechanisms to accelerate energy transition projects and urged greater U.S.-Africa collaboration in technology transfer, capacity building, and joint research. He reaffirmed Algeria’s readiness to share its technical expertise with African partner nations, advancing energy security and economic resilience across the continent.

In conclusion, Arkab invited U.S. partners to seize the opportunities emerging from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), emphasizing the importance of building trust-based partnerships anchored in shared prosperity and respect.

He is accompanied by a high-level delegation including Salma Bakhta Mansouri, Secretary of State for African Affairs, along with senior officials from the foreign affairs and energy sectors. On the sidelines of the summit, Arkab is expected to engage in bilateral meetings with counterparts and executives from major international companies.
