Algeria, China Deepen Strategic Media Ties: Minister Meziane Meets Ambassador Dong Guangli

A renewed momentum for bilateral cooperation in broadcasting, news exchange, and media strategy within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Algiers, Algeria | May 5th, 2025 — In a move reinforcing the strategic axis between Algiers and Beijing, Algeria’s Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, held a meeting on Monday, May 5, with the Chinese Ambassador to Algeria, Dong Guangli, to explore new horizons of cooperation in the media and communication sectors.

Held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Algiers, the high-level dialogue emphasized the solid historical ties that unite Algeria and China and reaffirmed the shared determination to further enhance bilateral collaboration in media development. The discussions underscored the mutual interest in building dynamic media partnerships that reflect both nations’ strategic vision and cultural diplomacy.

A central point of the meeting was the evaluation of existing cooperation frameworks, particularly the Executive Cooperation Programme in Radio and Television, which was signed in 2019. The agreement has since laid the groundwork for sustained audiovisual exchange and technical collaboration between Algerian and Chinese media institutions.

Additionally, both sides reviewed progress on a new bilateral agreement for news content exchange between the Algerian Press Service (APS) and the Xinhua News Agency, which is expected to be formally signed in the coming months. This program aims to enhance information flow, mutual visibility, and accurate coverage of developments in both countries, contributing to balanced international narratives.

Minister Meziane and Ambassador Dong also underlined the strategic character of the Algeria-China partnership, further reinforced by Algeria’s accession to China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The initiative is seen as a vehicle for expanding cooperation beyond infrastructure and trade to encompass culture, education, and media.
