Algiers, Algeria | In a step towards consolidating its leadership in renewable energies, Algeria has opened discussions with China’s Kibing Group, a world leader in advanced glass manufacturing, to launch the ambitious “Algeria Solar Glass Project.” The initiative, unveiled during a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Energy, carries the potential to transform Algeria into a regional hub for solar technology and green industries.

The proposed project envisions the construction of a solar glass plant with an annual production capacity of 1.53 million tonnes, coupled with a state-of-the-art unit dedicated to the processing and valorization of ultra-pure silica sand at a capacity of 1.08 million tonnes per year. Beyond industrial capacity, the project promises to create 3,000 direct jobs and secure an impressive 90% local integration rate, leveraging Algeria’s abundant natural resources.

Strategic Value for the Energy Transition

More than just an industrial plant, this project is positioned as a strategic pillar in Algeria’s national energy transition. By valorizing its silica reserves and integrating them into a complete solar manufacturing chain, Algeria aims not only to meet domestic energy demands but also to export solar technology to the wider Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This move places the country at the forefront of the global shift towards clean energy while reinforcing its economic sovereignty.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of State for Renewable Energies Noureddine Yassa reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to fostering fruitful partnerships with global leaders in clean technology. He highlighted the ongoing reforms to Algeria’s investment climate, which now offer unprecedented guarantees and incentives for large-scale strategic projects.

For her part, Secretary of State for Mines Karima Bekir Tafer outlined the mechanisms in place to ensure transparent and efficient valorization of national mining resources, underscoring the government’s determination to align investment projects with Algeria’s long-term sustainable development strategy.

Kibing Group, already a recognized leader in photovoltaic, Low-E, and insulating glass, brings internationally certified expertise to Algeria. Its collaboration with Algeria reflects not only a transfer of technology but also the emergence of a long-term strategic alliance that could redefine the industrial and energy landscape of the country.

The two parties agreed to intensify technical discussions in the coming days, with specialized working groups to assess feasibility, financing, and implementation. If successfully executed, the Algeria Solar Glass Project will stand as a landmark in Algeria’s industrial diversification and a symbol of Sino-Algerian cooperation at the service of sustainable progress.
