Algeria Demands UN Action to Halt Famine in Gaza: A Scathing Indictment of Zionist War Crimes
✍️ BY: Dr. Hana Saada
Algiers, Algeria | Algeria has sounded an unambiguous alarm at the United Nations, calling on the Security Council to break its silence and act immediately to stop the famine devastating Gaza—an atrocity officially recognized by the UN itself. Speaking at a tense Security Council session on the Middle East, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amar Bendjama, delivered a blistering condemnation of the Zionist entity, accusing it of weaponizing starvation and annihilation as tools of genocide.
“The Security Council must act to impose an immediate ceasefire, to protect and save innocent lives, to ensure unhindered humanitarian access, and to put an end to famine,” Bendjama declared, warning that failing to act would make the Council complicit in genocide. “Stopping a genocide is not an option, it is an obligation.”
Bendjama stressed that famine in Gaza is no longer a looming threat but a grim reality—children are already perishing, and thousands more face death if international inaction continues. He rejected any attempt to disguise this crime with manipulated statistics or token food drops meant only to soothe guilty consciences. “If the Zionist entity had respected the ceasefire agreement, Gaza would not be bleeding today,” he said.
The Algerian envoy underscored that the catastrophe is the direct consequence of a colonial policy built on “assassination, destruction, and annihilation.” He brandished harrowing images of famine’s youngest victims: Yahia al-Najjar, a three-month-old infant who succumbed to hunger, and Yazan Abu Ful, a two-year-old whose frail body epitomizes the suffering of Gaza’s besieged children.
Beyond starvation, Bendjama drew attention to another war crime: the systematic targeting of Palestinian journalists. “They are silenced to bury the truth,” he denounced. “That is why journalists are barred from entering Gaza, and why Palestinian journalists are deliberately hunted down and killed.” He reminded the Council that on August 10, six journalists were executed by Zionist forces, followed days later by another massacre at Nasser Hospital, where five more—including journalist Maryam Abu Daqqa, armed only with her camera—were slain.
The Algerian diplomat read aloud a letter written by Abu Daqqa’s mother to her 13-year-old daughter before her martyrdom, holding up the journalist’s portrait in a poignant reminder of the human cost of inaction.
Turning his fury on the Security Council itself, Bendjama lambasted its inertia and complicity: “Will this Council continue to be a theatre of lamentations, echoing speeches while Gaza burns in silence? This Council has a moral and legal duty to act. To delay is to choose shame; to fail is to embrace complicity.”
Algeria’s message was unmistakable: the famine in Gaza is not a humanitarian accident but a calculated act of extermination by the Zionist entity. History will judge not only the perpetrators but also those who watched in silence.
