Algeria–Egypt: Azzouz Nasri Reaffirms the Strength and Strategic Depth of Bilateral Partnership

𝓐𝓵𝓰𝓲𝓮𝓻𝓼 – 𝓙𝓪𝓷𝓾𝓪𝓻𝔂 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 – The Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Mr. Azzouz Nasri, received on Wednesday the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Algeria, Mr. Abdellatif Abdessalam Abdo Al-Layeh, during a courtesy visit reflecting the depth of the fraternal relations binding the two countries.
At the outset of the meeting, Mr. Nasri praised the historical solidity and profound depth of Algerian-Egyptian relations, recalling that their foundations are rooted in long-standing civilizational and human ties. He emphasized that these bonds were further consolidated during Algeria’s War of National Liberation, a period in which Egypt provided steadfast and decisive support to the Algerian cause, contributing significantly to its international recognition.
In this context, the Speaker of the Council of the Nation underlined that this shared militant legacy has constituted the cornerstone of a sincere and enduring relationship, one that has continued to strengthen across decades and through varying regional and international circumstances. He further highlighted the positive momentum currently characterizing bilateral relations, driven by the shared political will of the leaderships of both countries.
For his part, the Egyptian diplomat expressed his high appreciation for the level of fraternal relations between Algeria and Egypt, commending the convergence of views and close coordination on numerous issues of mutual interest. He reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to pursuing joint efforts with Algiers to further enhance bilateral cooperation and broaden its horizons, in the service of stability and development across the Arab and African spheres.
At the regional and international levels, both sides confirmed the alignment of Algerian and Egyptian positions on major dossiers, as well as their shared adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly respect for state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the peaceful settlement of conflicts. In this regard, Mr. Nasri reiterated Algeria’s steadfast position in support of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and its unwavering commitment to the right of peoples to self-determination.
The two officials also exchanged views on developments in Libya, Sudan, and the Sahel region, stressing the imperative of prioritizing comprehensive political solutions, strengthening dialogue, and rejecting all forms of foreign interference, in the interest of regional security and stability.
Discussions further addressed parliamentary relations between the Council of the Nation and the Egyptian Senate. Both parties underscored the importance of invigorating mechanisms of cooperation within parliaments and shared regional and international parliamentary unions, notably the Arab Parliamentary Union, the African Parliamentary Union, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. They also emphasized the need to enhance the role of parliamentary friendship groups and intensify exchanges of visits and expertise.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides affirmed that Algeria and Egypt, as central pillars of security and stability in the Arab world and North Africa, bear a fundamental responsibility in preserving regional balance, promoting peace and consultation, and advancing joint action in favor of stability and development—fully commensurate with their political, historical, and regional weight.
