Arkab and Egyptian Minister Discuss Joint Projects in Hydrogen, Phosphate, and Regional Integration on Sidelines of U.S.-Africa Business Summit

Algiers, Algeria | June 23rd, 2025 — In a move to advance regional energy integration and resource-based collaboration, Algerian Minister of State for Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, held a high-level bilateral meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Minister of Public Business Sector, on the margins of the 17th U.S.-Africa Business Summit.

The strategic encounter, attended by Ms. Salma Bakhta Mansouri, Secretary of State in charge of African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassador of Algeria in Angola, and senior officials from both ministries, centered on expanding cooperation between Algeria and Egypt in energy, mining, and renewables.

Arkab and his Egyptian counterpart reviewed the current state of collaboration and identified new investment opportunities, particularly in hydrocarbons, gas, petrochemicals, and green hydrogen development. Both sides agreed on the urgent need to translate shared ambitions into operational projects, anchored in mutual benefit and regional prosperity.

Special emphasis was placed on joint exploitation of mineral resources, especially in phosphate transformation industries, fertilizer production, and technical knowledge exchange. The Algerian side reaffirmed its willingness to share its industrial expertise and logistical capacity to strengthen Egypt’s value chains in mining and extractive industries.

Among the core topics discussed was the Regional Electrical Interconnection Project, a visionary initiative linking Algeria to Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt. This megaproject is expected to reinforce North Africa’s energy security, reduce reliance on external markets, and facilitate cross-border energy trade, particularly in clean electricity and hydrogen.

The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to intensify bilateral coordination, promote reciprocal visits between business leaders and public operators, and materialize strategic investments in infrastructure, industrial transformation, and regional energy corridors.
