Algiers – November 2025 – Algeria has been elected as a member of the Executive Bureau of the African Parliamentary Union (UPA), assuming the position of Vice-President for the North African region. This election recognizes Algeria’s pivotal role in strengthening African parliamentary cooperation and defending shared interests within regional bodies, according to a statement from the People’s National Assembly (APN) on Sunday.
The election took place during the 47th session of the Conference of Presidents of National Parliaments of the UPA, which concluded on Saturday in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, following two days of in-depth discussions on political and economic issues critical to the continent’s future and the enhancement of joint parliamentary action.
On the final day, the reports of the Political and Economic Commissions were approved. The reports, presented respectively under the themes “Strengthening National Sovereignty of African Countries for Sustainable Development” and “Challenges of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy Development in Africa,” include a series of recommendations aimed at consolidating political stability and improving economic governance across African nations.
During the session, the Algerian parliamentary delegation, led by the Vice-President of the APN, Monder Bouden, held a bilateral meeting with the delegation of the Republic of Zimbabwe. The two parties reaffirmed their commitment to coordinating positions in light of the historical ties and shared struggles linking the two countries.
Additionally, both delegations emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in economic and cultural domains, while reaffirming their determination to further develop parliamentary cooperation, thereby consolidating collaboration across multiple sectors between Algeria and Zimbabwe.
