Algeria Expands Non-Oil Exports with 35 Shipments to 19 Countries from a 13-Wilaya Production Network
By Dr. Hana Saada
Algeria has significantly intensified its export diversification agenda with the launch of a large-scale, multi-sector export operation from the wilaya of Tizi Ouzou, marking a coordinated national effort to expand the country’s presence in international markets beyond hydrocarbons.
The operation was officially overseen by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Professor Kamel Rezig, alongside the Wali of Tizi Ouzou, Aboubaker Boucetta, and senior local and national officials, including members of the security apparatus and parliamentary representatives. The initiative connects 13 wilayas across the country in a unified export framework targeting 19 international destinations spanning Europe, the Arab world, Africa, and the Americas.
The operation involves 35 distinct export movements, coordinated simultaneously through videoconference with multiple regional authorities. Participating wilayas include El M’Ghair, Mostaganem, Relizane, Oran (including the ports of Oran and Arzew), Algiers (Houari Boumediene International Airport), Sétif, Jijel, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Annaba, Béjaïa, Skikda, and Biskra, underscoring the nationwide scope of the initiative.
The exported product portfolio reflects a broad industrial and agricultural base, ranging from fresh agricultural produce such as cherry tomatoes, fruits, and dates, to processed food products, dairy items, cleaning materials, paper, packaging goods, household appliances, spare parts, ceramics, as well as construction materials including cement, clinker, and reinforcing steel. The diversity of goods highlights the gradual structural shift in Algeria’s export composition toward value-added manufacturing and agro-industrial production.
Several major national companies are involved in this export cycle, including Tosyali Algeria, Holcim Cilas, Faderco, Condor, Sinova Samsung Home, AQS (Algerian-Qatari Steel), Tayal Textile, Brandt Algeria, Cevital-affiliated entities, and other industrial and agro-industrial operators. Their participation signals the growing role of large industrial groups in positioning Algerian products within competitive global supply chains.
Among the detailed export operations is a significant shipment structure involving 68 containers distributed across key regional markets. Egypt accounts for the largest share with 52 containers, including air-conditioning units, televisions, and cooling systems supplied by Condor and Hisense. Tunisia receives 12 trucks of household appliances, including washing machines and air-conditioning units, while Libya is supplied with four trucks of air-conditioning products. The scale of this operation reflects a consolidation of North African trade integration in manufactured consumer goods.
In parallel with the export launch, the minister inaugurated a national dairy and cheese exhibition dedicated to export promotion, featuring 159 exhibitors, including 71 industrial producers, 57 artisans, and 31 start-ups operating in the dairy and cheese sectors. The exhibition hosted a significant diplomatic presence, including representatives from Mauritania, Niger, Indonesia, Vietnam, Brazil, Libya, and Tunisia, highlighting Algeria’s efforts to integrate its agri-food sector into broader international commercial networks.
Authorities emphasized that Tizi Ouzou has emerged as a national benchmark in dairy and cheese production, combining traditional expertise with modern industrial transformation. The region’s production capacity was presented as a model for converting local resources into competitive exportable value, reinforcing Algeria’s broader strategy of strengthening agri-food exports.
In a further step toward industrial diversification, the minister also supervised the launch of ceramic exports to Canada by the company AZ Ceram. This operation is part of Algeria’s expanding industrial export portfolio, particularly in construction materials, and reflects the increasing compliance of national products with international quality standards.
Additionally, a shipment of automotive brake components produced by IKAM was launched toward Tunisia and Libya, in the framework of export contracts signed during the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF). This development underscores the growing integration of Algerian mechanical industries into regional value chains and their gradual entry into specialized manufacturing export markets.
Across all segments of the initiative, the minister reiterated that the diversification of exportable products reflects the evolving structure of the national economy, noting the increasing competitiveness of Algerian industrial and agricultural production. He further stressed that state-backed mechanisms continue to support exporters in expanding access to international markets, in line with national policy objectives to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons.
The operation aligns with presidential directives aimed at strengthening non-hydrocarbon exports, expanding Algeria’s industrial base, and consolidating the country’s positioning in global trade networks. It also reflects a broader strategic ambition to transform export activity from isolated initiatives into a structured, sustained national economic pillar.
