Algiers – November 2025 – The Embassy of Algeria in Brazil solemnly marked the 71st anniversary of the outbreak of the Glorious Liberation Revolution with an official ceremony in Brasília that combined solemn remembrance with an assertive message of national progress and diplomatic vitality. The event, held under the aegis of Ambassador Abdelaziz Benali Cherif, drew a wide cross-section of political, military and civil society figures and underscored Algeria’s enduring commitment to its historical narrative and its expanding international footprint.
Among the distinguished attendees was the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounès Magramane, who happened to be in Brasília on a working visit to co-chair the sixth session of the Algerian–Brazilian political consultations held jointly with his Brazilian counterpart. Their concurrent presence reinforced the ceremonial moment with tangible diplomatic momentum, signalling that commemoration and statecraft proceed in parallel for Algeria’s external engagement.
The ceremony assembled senior political and military personalities, members of the diplomatic corps, parliamentarians, representatives of the Algerian-Brazilian Friendship Association and a large delegation from the Algerian diaspora in Brazil, together with journalists and representatives of the local media. This broad attendance testified to the depth of ties between the two countries and to the resonance of Algeria’s liberation memory among its citizens abroad.
Ambassador Abdelaziz Benali Cherif used the occasion to recall, with solemn gravity, the immense sacrifices borne by the Algerian people in their struggle for freedom and independence. He framed those sacrifices not as relics of the past but as the foundation of contemporary achievements, reiterating that the revolution’s legacy remains the moral and political compass of the nation.
In a precise and emphatic review, the Ambassador highlighted Algeria’s advances across social and developmental metrics. He underscored the nation’s giant strides in social development and the notable improvements in citizens’ quality of life, as well as the dynamic progress observable across multiple sectors of national development. His account presented a country that has transitioned from memory to momentum, asserting modernisation and social progress as the living fruits of historical struggle.
On the foreign policy front, the Algerian representative reaffirmed the country’s steadfastness in strengthening its international relations and opening to the world in ways that align with its principles and historical identity. He argued that Algeria’s growing regional and international stature is not incidental but the result of consistent policy choices that reflect its values and strategic interests.
Ambassador Benali Cherif concluded by vindicating the historic depth of Algerian–Brazilian relations, invoking ties that stretch back to the nineteenth century — notably the encounter between the Emperor of Brazil and Emir Abdelkader — as evidence of a relationship rooted in mutual respect and long memory. He offered a positive assessment of bilateral relations and expressed his conviction that the present dynamism, underpinned by full alignment between the countries’ leaderships, will propel cooperation and partnership to unprecedented levels.
