Communication and Telecommunications Ministers to Lead Strategic Workshop for Journalists on the Future of Media and Digital Infrastructure

Algiers, Algeria | May 30th, 2025 — In a move to accelerate the digital transformation of Algeria’s media landscape, the Ministry of Communication has announced the organization of a high-level conference on “Emerging Information Technologies, with a Special Focus on 5G”, set to take place next Tuesday at the Ministry’s headquarters in Algiers.

The event—part of an ongoing training series spearheaded by the government—will be jointly presided over by Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, and Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, and will gather a host of prominent journalists, media professionals, and technology experts.

According to an official communiqué released Thursday, the initiative reflects the government’s firm commitment to equipping national media with the technological literacy and strategic foresight required to navigate a fast-evolving digital world.

“This conference aims to empower Algerian journalists and media professionals with a deeper understanding of the newest information technologies, particularly 5G, whose deployment is central to our national digital agenda,” the statement emphasized.

This expert-led training session aligns with Algeria’s broader governmental objective to extend 5G coverage nationwide, while simultaneously fostering homegrown expertise capable of supporting and accompanying this critical technological leap.

Organizers stress that this is not a mere technical upgrade, but a strategic imperative to ensure that Algerian journalism remains competitive, credible, and resilient amid shifting media paradigms.

The event will feature renowned specialists and digital transformation experts, who will engage participants in discussions on the implications of 5G for media production, real-time communication, cybersecurity, and access to information.
