Algeria Hosts National Study Day on Amazigh-Language Media in Presence of Communication Minister Mohamed Meziane

The Batna event, organized by the High Commission for Amazighity and regional media actors, highlights the achievements, challenges, and future prospects of Amazigh-language journalism in Algeria.

 

Algiers, Algeria | May 15th, 2025 — In a powerful reaffirmation of Algeria’s commitment to linguistic and cultural diversity, Minister of Communication Mohamed Meziane is set to participate this Saturday in a national study day dedicated to Amazigh-language media, under the theme: “Amazigh-Language Media in Algeria: Valuing Experience and Envisioning the Future.”

The event will take place at the Grand Amphitheatre of El Hadj Lakhdar University in Batna, and is jointly organized by the High Commission for Amazighity (HCA) and the Association of Reporters and Journalists of the Aurès Region, according to an official communiqué from the Ministry of Communication.

This scholarly and media-centered gathering aims to take stock of the progress and challenges faced by Amazigh-language media, while opening forward-looking dialogue on ways to expand its presence and influence within Algeria’s national media landscape.

The study day will feature a series of thematic workshops addressing key issues, including the promotion of Amazigh-language journalism, the balance between current realities and future ambitions, and the structural and professional challenges that shape the development of Amazigh-speaking media outlets.

“This initiative is part of a broader institutional effort to consolidate the role of the Amazigh language in national life and to ensure its meaningful integration into Algeria’s media system,” the Ministry affirmed in its statement.

Participants from various sectors—including academia, journalism, cultural institutions, and civil society—are expected to engage in robust dialogue aimed at refining strategies for training, content development, and media pluralism in Amazigh.
