Algeria, IFC Explore Expanded Energy Partnership at High-Level Talks in Algiers

๐๐ต๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ป๐ผ โ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ป๐พ๐ช๐ป๐ ๐๐๐๐ โย Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies Mourad Adjal received, on Sunday in Algiers, a high-level delegation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), as part of Algeriaโs drive to broaden its international partnerships and strengthen cooperation in the strategic energy sector.
According to a statement from the Ministry, discussions with the IFC delegationโled by its Vice President for Africa, Ethiopis Tafaraโfocused on prospects for cooperation, partnership and investment in energy and renewable energies. The meeting was held at the Ministryโs headquarters in the presence of senior officials from the energy sector, a representative of the Ministry of Finance, and executive managers from the IFC.
The talks fall within the framework of reinforcing Algeriaโs external cooperation and expanding its international partnerships, particularly at the continental level. Both sides examined practical mechanisms to consolidate bilateral cooperation at both national and international scales, with a view to building sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships.
In his opening address, Minister Adjal underscored the central role of energy in underpinning economic and social development. He highlighted Algeriaโs extensive expertise, noting that national companies and competencies cover the entire energy value chainโfrom production to transport and distributionโalongside advanced capabilities in the electrical industries, training and engineering.
The minister also recalled Algeriaโs strategic orientation towards investment in renewable and clean energies, notably through the national programme aiming to generate 15,000 megawatts by 2035. Such indicators, he said, reinforce Algeriaโs standing as a reliable partner in supporting energy development at the continental level.
For his part, Ethiopis Tafara expressed the IFCโs strong interest in expanding the scope of cooperation and partnership with Algeria in the fields of energy and renewable energies, both domestically and internationally. In this context, he proposed a partnership project for the development of electricity generation from wind energy within Algeria. At the continental level, he further suggested that African countries could benefit from Algeriaโs proven expertise to advance energy development and expand access to electricity for citizens.
In the same vein, Minister Adjal reaffirmed Algeriaโs determination to remain a strategic partner in efforts to increase electrification rates across Africa, drawing on the achievements and know-how of national competencies in this field. He stressed, however, the importance of translating this shared ambition into concrete projects on the ground.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to hold technical working sessions bringing together financial and technical experts from both sides, with the aim of laying the foundations for a solid and effective partnership, the Ministryโs statement said.
