Algeria Inaugurates Embassy in Bratislava, Marking a New Chapter in Bilateral Diplomacy

Algiers – December 2025 – In a diplomatic development underscoring the strategic deepening of Algerian-Slovak relations, Algeria officially opened its first embassy in Bratislava on Tuesday. The inauguration was jointly led by Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD) and Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf, with both senior officials affirming their shared commitment to elevating cooperation across multiple sectors.
Describing the moment as a “significant milestone,” Slovakia’s chief diplomat emphasized that the opening of the Algerian embassy in the Slovak capital represents a decisive step toward strengthening mutual engagement. Blanár noted that Algeria’s move comes as a reciprocal gesture following Slovakia’s recent reopening of its embassy in Algiers, signaling a renewed and balanced diplomatic momentum between the two nations.
During their joint meeting, the foreign ministers signed a memorandum designed to serve as a forward-looking roadmap for bilateral cooperation. The document aims to revitalize ten of the seventeen agreements previously concluded between Algeria and Slovakia—agreements which, according to Blanár, should now “reflect a new generation of cooperation.” He stressed that both countries are eager to reinforce their collaboration in key areas including the economy, trade, energy, and the defense industry.
Attaf highlighted the vast potential for partnership, pointing to Algeria’s readiness to expand cooperation in energy and alternative energy systems, automotive manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, digitization, higher education, scientific research, and water management. He underscored the importance of accelerating the establishment of a government commission and a joint council bringing together entrepreneurs and employers from both sides.
Expressing a strong personal commitment, Attaf declared: “I would like to personally complete the construction of this institutional framework with you, so that a clear path is opened and we can fully seize all opportunities for cooperation.”
