Mohamed Khouane Receives Indian Delegation, Emphasizes Strong Bilateral Cooperation and Shared Geopolitical Vision

Algiers, Algeria | June 2nd, 2025 — In a diplomatic gesture reaffirming the strength of Algerian-Indian relations, Mohamed Khouane, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and the National Community Abroad at the People’s National Assembly (APN), received on Sunday an Indian parliamentary delegation led by Mr. Baijayant Panda — Member of Parliament and Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of India — currently on an official visit to Algiers. The meeting took place at the APN headquarters in the presence of Ms. Swati Vijay Kulkarni, India’s Ambassador to Algeria.

This high-level encounter served as an opportunity to revisit the rich historical ties that have long united Algeria and India — a relationship founded on mutual respect, shared values, and a common struggle for liberation and sovereignty. Mr. Khouane emphasized that these deep-rooted connections form a solid foundation upon which both nations seek to elevate their bilateral cooperation to new strategic heights.

In his remarks, Khouane underlined the need to intensify political consultation and expand joint action between Algiers and New Delhi. He advocated for the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership that reflects the evolving geopolitical landscape and the aspirations of both nations to play pivotal roles on the international stage.

From a parliamentary standpoint, Khouane expressed a strong desire to align legislative cooperation with the high level of political relations that currently characterize the two countries. He particularly encouraged reciprocal parliamentary visits and sustained dialogue as essential mechanisms to strengthen ties and serve the mutual interests of both peoples.

For his part, Mr. Baijayant Panda stressed the symbolic and strategic significance of the visit, citing the historic depth of Algerian-Indian relations and the convergence of their respective stances on numerous regional and global challenges. Panda lauded Algeria’s pioneering role in the global fight against terrorism and extremism, and voiced India’s commitment to bolstering joint efforts aimed at promoting global peace and security.

The Indian envoy also reiterated his country’s readiness to broaden and deepen cooperation across multiple sectors, framing the partnership as a win-win dynamic with tangible benefits for both nations.

Throughout the exchange, the two sides also addressed several pressing regional and international issues of shared concern, reaffirming their commitment to a multilateral order grounded in dialogue, solidarity, and sovereignty.

It is noteworthy that Mr. Panda’s visit, heading a prominent parliamentary delegation, spans from May 30 to June 2, 2025 — a reflection of India’s renewed engagement with Algeria and the broader Maghreb region.
