Algeria, India Strengthen Strategic Ties: Toward a New Era of Economic and Parliamentary Cooperation

Algiers – October 2025 – Algeria and India reaffirmed their shared determination to deepen their long-standing partnership and advance economic cooperation to new heights, as Brahim Boughali, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN), received Swati Vijay Kulkarni, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Algeria, on Wednesday in Algiers. The meeting, described as constructive and forward-looking, reflected both nations’ mutual aspiration to consolidate ties rooted in historical friendship and strategic alignment.
According to a statement from the APN, Boughali highlighted that the recent visit of the President of the Republic of India to Algeria, and her meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, marked a “renewed momentum” in bilateral relations, paving the way for “a stronger and more comprehensive partnership between the two friendly countries.” The Algerian parliamentary leader hailed India as a “strategic economic partner” and expressed the wish to see Indian investments flourish in Algeria, particularly under the framework of the new Investment Code, which opens wide prospects for international cooperation and private sector participation.
Boughali underscored the importance of enhancing parliamentary diplomacy, noting that the APN had already established an Algerian-Indian Parliamentary Friendship Group to reinforce dialogue and mutual understanding. He called upon the Indian People’s Chamber to set up a similar structure, in order to institutionalize exchanges and sustain political coordination on issues of common concern.
In his address, Boughali also reaffirmed Algeria’s principled and unwavering foreign policy, grounded in the promotion of dialogue, peace, and international legality. He reiterated that Algeria firmly condemns the crimes and massacres committed by Zionist occupation forces against the defenseless Palestinian people, reaffirming Algeria’s steadfast support for just causes and peoples’ right to self-determination, in full conformity with international law and humanitarian principles.
For her part, Ambassador Swati Vijay Kulkarni conveyed India’s strong commitment to strengthening cooperation and expanding economic exchanges with Algeria. She emphasized her determination to deepen parliamentary collaboration, describing Algeria as a “pioneering nation” whose influence extends across Africa and within the United Nations Security Council.
The Indian diplomat also reaffirmed her country’s clear and consistent stance on the Western Sahara issue, supporting the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, in alignment with India’s traditional support for decolonization and respect for international legitimacy.
The meeting concluded with a mutual reaffirmation of the will to bolster the historic friendship between Algeria and India, building upon decades of solidarity and shared values. Boughali reiterated the commitment of the People’s National Assembly to support all initiatives aimed at strengthening Algerian-Indian relations, both in the economic and parliamentary fields, as a contribution to peace, development, and mutual prosperity.
