Algeria, Indonesia Strengthen Intellectual and Religious Dialogue Through High-Level Talks

Algiers – October 2025 – In a move underscoring the depth of historical ties and the vitality of contemporary cooperation, the President of the High Islamic Council of Algeria, Professor Dr. Mabrouk Zaid El Kheir, received today Mr. Muhammad Anis Mata, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in charge of the Islamic World, accompanied by Indonesia’s Ambassador to Algiers and a high-ranking delegation. The meeting, held at the Council’s headquarters, provided the framework for profound discussions on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing shared concerns.
Professor Zaid El Kheir recalled with solemn appreciation the fraternal bonds uniting the Algerian and Indonesian peoples, bonds whose roots extend to Algeria’s War of Liberation. He highlighted Indonesia’s unwavering solidarity with Algeria during its struggle for independence—a legacy that continues to serve as a bedrock for contemporary cooperation.
The deliberations emphasized the imperative of activating new channels of intellectual cooperation, particularly in the fields of ijtihad and innovative thought, attuned to the transformations of the modern era. In this regard, Mr. Muhammad Anis Mata praised the pivotal role of the High Islamic Council, describing it as a national and international reference in addressing contemporary intellectual and religious issues. He commended its commitment to promoting balanced approaches and fostering constructive thought, and underscored the importance of exchanging expertise and moderate perspectives to safeguard youth and raise awareness in the face of today’s challenges.
Both parties agreed on the central role of Algeria and Indonesia as leaders in advancing a culture of moderation and balance within the Muslim world. The talks also explored the prospect of launching joint research initiatives and projects addressing pressing societal challenges, thus consolidating the foundations of a renewed civilizational dialogue.
