Algeria, Kazakhstan Forge Strategic Energy Partnership: New Chapter in Bilateral Cooperation Opens

Algiers, Algeria | June 29th, 2025 — In a diplomatic move aimed at deepening economic and technological ties, Algeria and Kazakhstan reaffirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across the strategic sectors of energy, mining, and renewable energy.

The talks took place at the Ministry of Energy headquarters in Algiers, where State Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, hosted Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Algeria, Anuarbek Akhmetov. Also in attendance were State Secretary for Mines, Karima Tafer, and State Secretary for Renewable Energies, Noureddine Yassaâ, along with several high-ranking officials from the ministry.

During the meeting, Minister Arkab outlined Algeria’s comprehensive national strategy for energy and mining development, stressing the vast potential for foreign investment in key areas such as hydrocarbon exploration and production, petrochemical industries, energy infrastructure, and the oil and gas value chain. He invited Kazakh companies to take part in both current and future projects, emphasizing the strategic benefits of partnership.

Both parties also examined emerging opportunities for joint collaboration in electricity generation and renewable energy technologies, including the local manufacture of renewable energy equipment and the establishment of ancillary industries. Special focus was given to expertise sharing and technology transfer in the fields of energy transition, energy efficiency, and energy storage—critical areas for both nations.

On the mining front, discussions touched upon the development of mutually beneficial partnerships between Algerian and Kazakh firms in mineral exploration, extraction, and processing. Given Kazakhstan’s advanced capabilities in this sector, Algeria expressed strong interest in leveraging Kazakh expertise to modernize its mining industry and accelerate value-added transformation.

Minister Arkab highlighted Algeria’s appreciation for Kazakhstan’s experience in these sectors, expressing a clear interest in seeing Kazakh companies actively participate in Algeria’s long-term development vision.

The meeting concluded with a major milestone: the agreement to establish a joint expert working group tasked with identifying priority projects and translating the discussed initiatives into actionable cooperation frameworks. This bilateral task force is expected to convene in the coming weeks to formalize operational roadmaps.
