Algeria Launches Nationwide Campaign to Plant Five Million Trees in a Landmark Environmental Mobilization

๐๐ต๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ป๐ผ โ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ป๐พ๐ช๐ป๐ ๐๐๐๐ โ Algeria is set to witness a major moment of nationwide mobilization on February 14, with the launch of a large-scale campaign to plant five million trees as part of sustained efforts to protect forests and strengthen the national vegetation cover. This ambitious initiative reflects the countryโs growing commitment to environmental preservation and climate resilience.
The campaign builds on the remarkable success of the national reforestation drive carried out on October 25, during which 1.41 million trees were planted across various regions of the country. The new operation seeks to scale up this momentum and translate it into a broader, more impactful environmental action.
Organized jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture, the General Directorate of Forests, and the Green Algeria Association, the campaign is embedded in a strategic vision aimed at safeguarding natural resources while fostering a deeply rooted culture of environmental citizenship among Algerians.
On this occasion, Minister of Agriculture Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, alongside the President of the Green Algeria Association, issued a wide-reaching call to all citizens, public and private institutions, civil society organizations, scouts, as well as university and school students, urging them to participate massively in this national initiative. Participants are encouraged to contribute according to their capacities and from their respective locations to ensure the success of this large-scale endeavor.
The minister stressed that the campaign goes far beyond the mere act of planting trees, describing it as a powerful message of hope addressed to future generations and a concrete expression of Algeriaโs determination to protect its environmental heritage and build a sustainable future.
