Algeria Launches Online Nationality Certificate for Diaspora

Algiers, Algeria– Tuesday, July 15, 2025 | In a development aimed at empowering its diaspora and streamlining bureaucratic procedures, the Algerian Ministry of Justice has officially announced the availability of the nationality certificate in digital format for Algerian citizens residing abroad. The initiative, unveiled on Tuesday through an official communiqué, allows expatriates to obtain the electronically signed document directly from the nearest Algerian embassy or consulate, marking a significant step toward administrative modernization and judicial service digitization.

This reform eliminates the previous requirement for nationals abroad to physically travel to Algeria to apply for or retrieve the certificate—an essential civil document used in numerous legal, administrative, and consular processes. With this new system in place, citizens can now complete the entire procedure remotely, with the assurance of authenticity guaranteed by the integration of an electronic signature.

According to the Ministry, the measure falls squarely within the broader government strategy to simplify judicial procedures, digitize public services, and make essential legal documents more accessible to Algerians around the world. It reflects President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s clear directive to improve the quality of services rendered to the diaspora and strengthen the ties between the State and its global citizens.
