Algeria Marks the 63rd Anniversary of the Restoration of National Sovereignty over Radio and Television

Algiers – October 2025 – Algeria solemnly commemorated today, Tuesday, the 63rd anniversary of the restoration of national sovereignty over radio and television, a landmark event that took place on October 28, 1962, symbolizing one of the most profound victories of the newly independent Algerian state in reclaiming its voice and narrative from colonial control.
The commemoration ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Algerian Television, where a wreath was laid before the memorial monument dedicated to this historic milestone. The event was attended by the Minister of Communication, the Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, and the Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of the Directorate-General of Communication, alongside a distinguished array of guests from the national and international media landscape.
Also present at the ceremony was the Director General of Algerian Television, accompanied by senior officials representing national, Arab, African, and European media institutions. A large number of journalists, technicians, and staff members from both Algerian Radio and Television took part in the tribute, reaffirming their enduring commitment to the public service mission entrusted to them since independence.
This annual commemoration stands as a vivid reminder of Algeria’s sovereignty over its media voice, an achievement that not only marked the liberation of the national broadcasting institutions from colonial domination but also laid the foundation for an independent and authentic Algerian narrative — one that reflects the values of freedom, dignity, and national unity.
