Algeria, Mauritania Deepen Strategic Economic Ties with Over 40 Landmark Agreements

Bilateral partnerships expand across food, pharmaceuticals, construction, IT, and industrial sectors during Algerian Product Fair in Nouakchott

Algiers, Algeria | May 28th, 2025 — In a historic move set to redefine bilateral trade dynamics in North-West Africa, Algeria and Mauritania signed more than 40 memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements on Wednesday in Nouakchott. The high-profile signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the 7th Algerian Product Fair held in the Mauritanian capital, under the auspices of Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion.

The event marked a major leap forward in economic integration between the two Maghreb neighbors, highlighting Algeria’s push to diversify its export markets and deepen commercial outreach across West Africa. The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of Algeria to Mauritania, Mr. Amine Sid, alongside representatives from the Mauritanian Ministries of Trade and Foreign Affairs.

The agreements involved 43 Algerian companies, both public and private, and span a wide spectrum of sectors. These firms will now begin exporting and marketing their products in the Mauritanian market, further consolidating Algeria’s presence as a regional economic powerhouse.

According to sources at the fair, the memorandums cover key industries including:

• Agri-food products

• Cosmetics and detergents

• Plastic and parapharmaceutical products

• Medical equipment

• Construction materials

• Industrial and household machinery

• Textile, leather, and bedding

• Razor blades and insecticides

• Electrical equipment and IT services

• Educational supplies and ceramic tiles

• Algerian dates, a symbol of the nation’s rich agricultural tradition

This dynamic trade initiative also includes institutional agreements between Algerian and Mauritanian organizations specialized in trade, export promotion, and economic development, reinforcing public-private collaboration on both sides.
