Algeria, Mauritania Forge Bilateral Fisheries Agreement Benefiting Algerian Fishing Vessels

Algeria and Mauritania have formalized a bilateral agreement granting Algerian fishing vessels access to Mauritanian maritime resources, including the ability to obtain permits for fishing and resource exploitation, according to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries.
The accord stems from the implementation program of a broader cooperation protocol covering fisheries, maritime economy, and aquaculture. It also emphasizes the reinforcement of scientific collaboration in both fisheries and aquaculture sectors. This development was formalized during the 20th session of the Algeria-Mauritania Joint High Commission on Cooperation, co-chaired in Algiers by Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb and his Mauritanian counterpart, Mokhtar Ould Diay.
The agreement was officially signed by Algeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, alongside Mauritania’s Minister of Fisheries, Maritime, and Port Infrastructure, Mokhtar Ould Ahmed Bouceif, solidifying a strategic partnership aimed at sustainable resource management and mutual economic benefit.
