Algerian Lower House Speaker Brahim Boughali embarks on a four-day visit to reinforce bilateral cooperation and strategic dialogue with Mauritania

Algiers, Algeria | June 23rd, 2025 — In a significant boost to Algerian-Mauritanian ties, Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly (APN), Brahim Boughali, began a four-day official visit to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania this Monday, at the invitation of his counterpart, Mohamed Bamba Meguett, President of the National Assembly of Mauritania.

This high-level parliamentary mission underscores the growing strategic and diplomatic momentum between the two Maghreb nations, rooted in historical fraternity, common interests, and shared geopolitical visions. According to a statement from the Algerian Parliament, the visit serves as “a valuable opportunity to exchange views on key issues of mutual concern and to explore mechanisms for strengthening coordination and enhancing strategic cooperation, particularly at the parliamentary level.”

During his stay in Nouakchott, Boughali is expected to hold in-depth bilateral discussions with President Meguett and other senior Mauritanian officials. The agenda includes consultations on a range of regional, continental, and international matters, in addition to talks on institutional cooperation, legislative diplomacy, and inter-parliamentary solidarity within the frameworks of the African Parliamentary Union and other multilateral platforms.

The visit is also anticipated to catalyze joint initiatives in fields such as security coordination, education, infrastructure, and cross-border development, aligning with the broader political will of both Presidents—Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria and Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani of Mauritania—to elevate their nations’ partnership to a new strategic echelon.
