ALGIERS โ February 18, 2026 โ The Algeria-Niger partnership in the electricity sector has been officially reactivated, Sonelgaz announced Wednesday, signaling a renewed commitment to bilateral energy cooperation.
In a videoconference held between executives of Sonelgaz and Nigerien utility Nigelec, both sides agreed to revive their bilateral agreement, reaffirming the strategic objectives outlined during the recent official visit of Nigerโs President to Algeria on February 15โ16. The meeting, conducted under the aegis of Algeriaโs Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies, explored pathways to accelerate cooperation, finalize pending agreements, and enhance the operational framework for joint projects.
As part of the agreement, a team of Sonelgaz experts will be dispatched to Niamey to assess the preparedness of a designated site for the construction of a new power generation facility. This project aims to strengthen Nigerโs electricity supply security while leveraging Algeriaโs technical expertise. In parallel, Nigelec technical staff will be hosted at Sonelgazโs Engineering and Electricity-Gas Vocational School in Adrar, receiving integrated training to ensure seamless knowledge transfer and operational excellence.
Through its subsidiaries, modern infrastructure, and extensive expertise, Sonelgaz reaffirmed its full readiness to ensure the success of this partnership.
