Algeria, Oman Deepen Social Cooperation as Ministers Meet in Algiers

Algiers, Algeria | June 21st, 2025 — Algeria’s Minister of National Solidarity, Family and the Status of Women, Dr. Soraya Mouloudji, welcomed her Omani counterpart, Laila Bent Ahmed Al-Najjar, on Saturday at Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers.

The visit comes ahead of the 16th session of the Committee on Social Development and the 4th Arab Forum for Equality, set to take place from June 23 to 25. Both events are jointly organized by the Algerian Ministry of Solidarity and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

According to the ministry, the Omani delegation will participate in discussions focusing on reforms to strengthen social protection systems and ensure universal coverage across the Arab world. The upcoming ministerial session, scheduled for June 23, will focus on “social protection as a lever of equality.”

The visit will also provide an opportunity for the Omani delegation to learn about Algeria’s experience in supporting vulnerable groups, including early childhood care, the elderly, and productive families. Several field visits are planned to institutions operating under the Ministry of Solidarity.

The forum will address regional efforts to enhance the effectiveness of social protection mechanisms, with an emphasis on inclusion, gender equity, and economic empowerment.

The Algerian government has underscored the importance of regional cooperation in shaping cohesive public policies and improving the living conditions of marginalized populations. Organizers expect the Algiers meetings to produce concrete recommendations to support inclusive social development strategies across the Arab region.
