Algiers, Algeria | May 19, 2024 — The Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, hosted Sylvie Baipo-Temon, his counterpart from the Central African Republic (CAR), for substantive discussions on enhancing bilateral cooperation and support. The meeting, held on Sunday, highlighted Algeria’s commitment to assisting the CAR in its efforts to restore security and stability.
During their meeting, Minister Attaf underscored the vital importance of strengthening the cooperative relationship between Algeria and the CAR. He emphasized Algeria’s dedication to fostering balanced and mutually beneficial relationships grounded in trust, understanding, and solidarity. This approach is in alignment with the principles of the United Nations Charter and the Constitutive Act of the African Union, which advocate for mutual respect and cooperation.
Commitment to Support CAR’s Stability
Minister Attaf reiterated Algeria’s unwavering political resolve to support the CAR’s authorities in their quest to restore security and stability. He emphasized the necessity of human resource training and capacity building, as well as the enhancement of cooperation to address shared challenges, particularly terrorism. “Algeria will continue to support the Central African Republic in human resource training and capacity building. We are fully prepared to enhance cooperation to address common challenges, foremost among them the scourge of terrorism,” Attaf asserted.
Algeria’s Proactive Stance in International Forums
Attaf highlighted Algeria’s proactive role within the United Nations Security Council, pledging steadfast support for the interests and priorities of the CAR and other African nations facing adversity. He noted the critical juncture at which the African continent finds itself, characterized by crises, tensions, and polarizations in international relations that adversely impact African countries and their populations.
Both ministers concurred on the urgent need to strengthen the African Union (AU) to ensure it plays a significant role in both continental and international arenas. This includes defending the shared interests and objectives of African countries, particularly in restoring peace and security, and achieving development and prosperity without discrimination. Attaf expressed hope for the upcoming renewal of the AU Commission’s composition, advocating for leadership that comprehends the current situation and can advance the aspirations of African nations and peoples.

Ms. Baipo-Temon expressed profound gratitude for Algeria’s consistent support of her country. She acknowledged Algeria’s significant role in the struggle for African emancipation, noting that Algeria’s efforts facilitated the independence of many African nations. She also highlighted the vast potential for partnerships between Algeria and the CAR across various sectors and affirmed her country’s support for Algeria’s positions within the UN Security Council, aimed at amplifying the voice of the African continent.
