Algiers – November 2025 – Algiers has concluded, on Saturday, the first edition of the Algerian Healthcare Exhibition “Clinvest Expo,” an ambitious event that aims to lay the foundations for a long-term pharmaceutical partnership between Algeria and countries across the African continent. Beyond its commercial dimension, the initiative reflects Algeria’s strategic ambition to emerge as a key continental hub for pharmaceutical innovation, bolster regional health sovereignty, and advance technological modernization in medical production.

The exhibition—held at the Palais des Expositions des Pins Maritimes—brought together over one hundred national and African exhibitors, showcasing a wide spectrum of pharmaceutical and biomedical expertise. The event, organized on the sidelines of the African Ministerial Conference on Local Pharmaceutical Production, was inaugurated by Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry Ouacim Kouidri and Minister of Health Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudène, in the presence of ministerial delegations and diplomatic representatives from several African nations.

Across the exhibition halls, Algeria’s evolving industrial capabilities in medicine and medical device manufacturing were prominently displayed. Participating companies highlighted their latest innovations, upgraded production lines, and integrated digital technologies. Several institutions introduced advanced platforms for research, development, and digitization—signaling a sector increasingly aligned with modern international standards and striving to compete on a global scale.

On the conference side, specialized panels addressed critical issues in oncology, anticancer production, diagnostics, and precision medical equipment. The overarching goal remained clear: to align Algeria’s local industry with global benchmarks while deepening regional industrial integration. Experts emphasized that this initiative comes at a decisive moment for Africa, where over 70 percent of consumed medicines are still imported. By driving local investment and fostering South-South cooperation, Algeria seeks to significantly reduce the continent’s structural dependence on foreign pharmaceutical markets.

African delegations expressed strong interest in joint procurement agreements, technology transfers, and professional training programs. Yet, specialists underline the challenges that persist. For Algeria, improving the quality of locally produced medicines—particularly in sensitive therapeutic categories like anticancer drugs—remains essential. Strengthening supply chain reliability, especially for pharmaceutical raw materials, is another pressing priority. Although several digital platforms for clinical development, quality control, and monitoring have emerged, research funding must expand significantly to support industrial innovation.

Despite these constraints, Clinvest Expo revealed an unmistakable momentum. Exhibitors highlighted an increasingly diversified national production, alongside the rise of start-ups specializing in medical imaging, biotechnology, and health data analytics. A new generation of Algerian engineers, pharmacists, and researchers is emerging—one firmly anchored in an innovation-driven mindset. Informal discussions throughout the exhibition underscored the scale of Africa’s demand for healthcare solutions and the strength of Algeria’s positioning to meet that demand.

Organizers estimate that nearly 9,000 visitors attended the expo over its three-day duration. Beyond offering visibility to industry players, Clinvest Expo principally seeks to establish the groundwork for sustainable pharmaceutical cooperation between Algeria and its African partners. The simultaneous holding of the African Ministerial Conference amplified the political significance of the initiative, ensuring that the Salon’s technical discussions were fully aligned with the continent’s strategic health priorities and official decision-making.
