Algiers, Algeria | From 4 to 10 September 2025, Algiers will cease to be merely a host city; it will become the very nerve center of Africa’s economic awakening. Ambassador Mohamed M’lah rightly emphasized that Algeria views IATF 2025 as more than a trade fair. It is an assertion of sovereignty, a demonstration of logistical competence, and above all, a political message: Africa can and must build prosperity through its own instruments.
By aligning with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Algeria is positioning itself as both convenor and leader — a state that marries economic pragmatism with diplomatic gravitas. This dual role distinguishes Algiers not just as an event organizer but as an indispensable actor in shaping Africa’s collective trajectory.
Breaking Dependency, Building Resilience
Algeria’s message is unambiguous: the days of asymmetrical trade relations with external powers must give way to an era of balanced intra-African commerce. By creating a continental marketplace, IATF 2025 will undercut the stranglehold of former colonial economies, empower African producers, and generate sustainable value chains that remain on African soil.
For President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, this strategy dovetails with a broader vision — diversifying Algeria’s economy beyond hydrocarbons and embedding it in a continental network of resilience. Far from being a short-term ambition, this is the blueprint for a sovereign future.
The presence of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo among the voices of support underscores the gravity of this initiative. As he put it, Algeria is not merely hosting a fair; it is founding a path toward long-awaited integration.
In one week, Algiers will bridge past and future, symbolism and pragmatism, ideals and investments. The city that once symbolized defiance against empire now embodies hope for economic rebirth.
