Algeria, Qatar Reaffirm Strategic Brotherhood Through High-Level Parliamentary Diplomacy

Algiers, Algeria | In a demonstration of deep-rooted fraternity and converging political visions, Azouz Nasri, Speaker of Algeria’s Council of the Nation, received on Tuesday the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Algeria, Abdelaziz Ali Al-Naama, during a courtesy visit that further cemented the robust diplomatic ties uniting the two nations.

Held at the upper chamber of the Algerian Parliament, the meeting served as a renewed affirmation of the historical, strategic, and brotherly relationship binding Algiers and Doha—relations anchored in shared values, unwavering solidarity, and a common pursuit of peace and justice at both regional and global levels.

Nasri underscored the centuries-old bond that unites Algeria and Qatar, lauding the political will of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani as the driving force behind the intensified pace of cooperation. He praised the mutual alignment of both nations on major global issues, particularly within Arab and Islamic fora, and hailed the joint efforts they undertake across international, parliamentary, and diplomatic platforms to promote stability, security, and prosperity.

Algeria Opens Its Doors to Qatari Investment

Echoing Algeria’s current economic revival underpinned by sweeping reforms, Nasri emphasized his country’s openness to Qatari investment across various sectors. He pointed to the creation of an attractive and secure investment climate, backed by a solid legal and institutional framework, which offers Qatar significant opportunities for long-term strategic partnerships within Algeria.

On foreign policy, Nasri reaffirmed the perfect harmony between the two countries on pressing international issues, with a particular emphasis on the Palestinian cause—the central concern of Arab and Islamic nations. In this regard, he unequivocally condemned the ongoing crimes of genocide, starvation, and forced displacement perpetrated by the Zionist occupation in Gaza and the Palestinian territories. He also reiterated Algeria’s unwavering foreign policy principles centered on decolonization, justice, and the inalienable right of peoples to self-determination.

Doha Hails Algeria’s Regional and Global Role

Ambassador Al-Naama expressed his pride in serving in Algeria, a “country with a glorious past and a promising future,” and applauded the positive momentum driving bilateral relations. He called for the preservation and elevation of this dynamic, emphasizing the necessity of leveraging all available mechanisms to meet the ambitions of both nations.

He also expressed Qatar’s gratitude for Algeria’s steadfast support of Qatari candidacies within international institutions, while praising Algeria’s pivotal role in defending Arab causes, particularly during its tenure as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He highlighted Algeria’s diplomatic leadership in safeguarding the rights of oppressed peoples and working toward a peaceful resolution of the Palestinian tragedy.

Concluding the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the strategic importance of enhancing parliamentary diplomacy as a cornerstone of the Algeria-Qatar relationship. They stressed the need to activate the Algeria-Qatar parliamentary friendship groups and intensify coordination within regional and international parliamentary unions. This cooperation, they agreed, would serve as a robust mechanism to consolidate a durable and constructive political partnership, reflective of the shared aspirations and unwavering solidarity between the two nations.
